Hog Eye Men shanty crew, with floorspots

When

Friday 14 March 2025
7:30pm - 10:30pm

Event Type

It’s shanty singing time in Orpington-at-Sea (SE London/NW Kent) with the return of the OLC’s favourite shipmates, the Hog Eye Men

The Hog Eye Men are (almost certainly) London’s premier shanty crew, having a residency at the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, and will entertain us with their huge repertoire of shanties and sea songs.

They sing them as they used to be sung, simply, boldly and loudly – participation is heartily encouraged.

We begin the evening with an hour of Floorspots/Open Mic from 19.30-20.30 before taking a short break, followed by the Hog Eye Men taking the stage with the first of their two sets starting at 20.45. The evening must finish by 22.45 at the very latest.

Singers, musicians, poets & spoken word are all welcome to the pre-shanty floorspots. It’s acoustic-based with a small PA available for anyone wishing to mic up or plugin to play. Songs & tales of the sea will be welcome but not compulsory, and a variety of genres are acceptable.

Payment will be by hat collection in cash, which goes to the guests. The suggested minimum contribution is £7 per head.  With the money being split a number of ways, it will be much appreciated if you can afford a little extra.

It’s free entry for OLC members & £1 for non-members.
The club’s CAMRA award-winning bar will be open (card payments only), with real ales & craft ciders a house speciality.
